Full sun (they love warm soil)
The pot needs to be at least 20 litres with a depth of 30cm. One plant per pot works best. Glazed clay pots are ideal and should be placed in full sun. The soil should always be moist.
Water regularly so that the soil is always moist but never soaked.
Warmer temperatures. Cannot tolerate frost.
Organic soil, warm, fertile and well drained.
Lettuce, Beans, Marigolds and Peppers.
Harvesting usually takes place 2 – 3 months after planting and the eggplant should be at least the size of an orange. Snip it off the vine leaving a short stalk.
Large green leaves with a rough texture with a white and purple flower.
Plants are 35cm wide and should be placed 45cm apart. They need to be staked once they start bearing fruit.
Brinjal manages to transcend different cuisines and can be readily found in French and Italian cooking. It can be served on its own or dressed up in a scrumptious melanzane or ratatouille dish.
