Sun / Shade

Full sun in cool regions and partial sun in warmer regions.

Indoor Growing

The pot needs to be at least 15 cm deep and 10 cm wide. Place your pot near a sunny window but make sure it is not in direct sunlight for longer than 8 hours. The soil should always be damp.

Temperature

Chinese cabbage likes cooler temperatures otherwise it grows to quickly and starts to seed. It prefers temperatures between 7 and 20 degrees.

Companion planting

Chinese cabbage grows well with cauliflower and cabbage but should not be planted with potatoes tomatoes or peppers.

Harvesting

They are best harvested 50 to 70 days after sowing, before the seed heads form and when the heads are firm and compact. The heads should be cut just above soil level.

Foliage

Pale tightly packed broad leaves with heavy central ribs. (Most common)

Spacing

Moderate growth rate, with foliage 25cm to 35cm high and 25 cm wide.

Chinese cabbage is a quick, easy and healthy addition to many dishes. It can be blanched and used as a side, popped into a stirfry or used to make yummy hand rolls.
